Thomas Solomon and Aardvark Letterpress, working together as Aardvark Letterpress Editions, are pleased to announce a new Letterpress Edition by Los Angeles artist Greg Colson. It is the first of two editions by Colson, titled:
“Making the Most of Your ME TIME”
2008
Letterpress on Arch 100% post consumer, tree free, archival paper
19 x 14"
Edition of 35
$3,000
The print can be seen as a schematic representation of a human figure lost in a web of good intentions, aspirations, and 'quality of life' analysis. It reflects a view that distraction amid extreme convenience and constant access to information are the prevailing condition of our time. This image has the semblance of an abstraction, but is, in fact, a convergence (or collision) of four specific diagrammatic illustrations:
1. A woman taking a relaxing bath next to a list of tips for “Making the Most of Your ME TIME.”
2. An environmental impact study of noise pollution during the hauling of debris from a construction site.
3. A workplace flowchart diagramming the procedure for renting a DVD or video.
4. An illustration cautioning against automatically believing poll numbers and survey results.
Everything gets equal billing. The trivial and the significant exist on the same plane of the TV or computer screen. The smallest, most insipid thing, if it catches the media’s eye or finds it’s way to YouTube – can have more impact than something of huge importance. This makes for a fascinating “figure-ground” relationship.
