Karen Kimmel / Creative Growth Collaboration, "The Art of Exchange," introduces the first of the Aardvark Letterpress Editions. The project explores the untapped potential of the letterpress medium as is a further extension of Kimmel’s collaborative work.

The prints included in this edition are based on original drawings by Creative Growth artists Sherron Freeman, Laura Jo Pierce and Michael Roberson. These three works were produced at the Dialogues Visiting Artist Workshop held at the Creative Growth studio. During this workshop, Kimmel brought a selection of more than sixty stencils providing a starting place for each individual CG artist. Over the course of the workshop, some 250 works were generated in response to Kimmel’s stencils. The three selected for the edition were further explored by Kimmel to expose a new set of cut-outs and stencil-like forms.
The limited edition of 30 pieces is comprised of three prints on paper placed inside a beautiful wooden box. Each of the three prints has been meticulously letterpressed using a broad range of hand-mixed inks and, in one case, a clear varnish. Abstract shapes have been die cut into the works and can removed and inlaid into the box top, forming a new work comprised of parts from the original three. Ultimately, how the piece is experienced and utilized is up to the individual.
