MILJOHN RUPERTO included in Art Park 2010 at Art Dubai
In 2010, the Art Park, the converted car park underneath the galleries at Madinat Jumeirah, includes the Bidoun Lounge, home to informal talks and performances, and a screening room and video bar, showing film programmes curated by Bidoun and guest curators.
Daily screenings hosted by the curators and artists take place in the Bidoun Lounge, while the programmes are looped continually in the screening room. The Video Bar lends itself to individual viewing and research.
A dynamic programme of talks and performances includes sessions looking at the relationships between archives, art, film and music, curated in collaboration with the avant-garde archival site UbuWeb. The Bidoun Lounge also hosts The Big Idea, a ‘pitching forum’ for artists, designers and architects from the UAE and beyond.
Once again the Art Park is designed in collaboration with Traffic with typography by the Khatt Foundation.
Hollywood Elegies
Drawing on a poem that Bertholt Brecht wrote while living in Los Angeles in the 1940s, this programme reflects on the persistence of Hollywood as an experiential framework rather than specific locale. The videos, including works by Hirsch Perlman, Drew Heitzler, David Lamelas and Hildegarde Duane, Nasty Nets, Tracey Rose, Walead Beshty, Jordan Wolfson, and JMS and Miljohn Ruperto, directly and indirectly refer to the current conditions of production, exhibition and distribution throughout cultural realms.
Curated by Aram Moshayedi.
